In the Community

Mountain Peak School in the Community

Mountain Peak is committed to community involvement. We strive to be leaders and role models in this community by getting involved and making a difference. Our children are taught the importance of volunteering, and donating to help those less fortunate. We also stress the importance of being "Green" by recycling and conserving here at school and at home. We want to teach them values and morals that they can apply throughout their lives.

Adopt a Pond
Our school takes great pride in adopting Cattail Pond near the fairgrounds where we routinely make sure that area is waste free. We have also unofficially adopted the neighborhood around the school, and every year we get out and pick up trash.

School Recycling Programs
Ongoing recycling programs have been implemented. We encourage the kids and their families to bring in empty ink and toner cartridges and used cellphones in an attempt to help them recycle material they may not otherwise do at home.

Our Parent Group organizes a rotating recycling schedule where parents donate their time to take all the paper, plastics, cardboard, and other items to the Longmont Single-Stream Recycling Center on a weekly basis.

Food & Clothing Drives
Mountain Peak participates in the Our Center's annual food drive in conjunction with our Thanksgiving presentation of "Stone Soup." At this same time the Parent Group holds a winter clothing and coat drive to benefit the Our Center. To see the kids excited about helping other people is heart warming.

Giving Tree
Every year our Parent Group selects an organization in need to be the benefactors of our Giving Tree. The students and their families always exceed our expectations in their generosity with this event.
